Thank You for Joining Us for the 2023-24 Season
SEASON END
As much as we'd like to continue grooming and skiing this spring, Mother Nature hasn't been cooperating for us. The storm on Sunday, March 10th did not bring enough snow to allow us return to open status and with most trails no longer having any base remaining, we are forced to concede that this is the end of the season.
Although shorter than we'd like, this season was a memorable one..
* The 1785 Bridge which washed away in May and replaced in mid-November with your donated dollars.
* A Pisten Bully 100 machine was added to the grooming fleet along with additional operators. Bring on the snow!
* After nearly 20" of snow fell in the first few days of December, we enjoyed a winter wonderland for almost a week. So beautiful.
* Torrential rains arrived on December 18th washing away the snow and the newly replaced 1785 Bridge! Thank you to the North Conway Water Precinct for securing it in place while repairing their flood damaged parking area.
* Thank you to Lisa Holcomb for leading a Guided Snowshoe Walk for the travel writers on bare ground on January 6th. It was very entertaining, informative, and the views were amazing.
* Nearly 9" of snow fell on Sunday, January 7th as the Samuel O'Reilly House B&B hosted a reception for ski and travel writers visiting the area for the weekend to experience why this is the best Nordic destination!
* The Whitaker Woods network opened on Monday, January 8th with a 2 - 3" base after 8 - 10" of new snow.
* NEW ... Nordic Pulse Live Grooming Report was launched on January 24th providing up-to-the-minute info on exactly which trails were groomed, when and type of tracks. You can even follow the progress of the groomers when on the trails.
* Started February with a 7 - 10" base and full network open.
* February 5th - NH Chronicle spent the day filming for their show "A Nordic Tour of the Mount Washington Valley; Trailside stops from food to beer, to golf ". The focus was on featuring trailside businesses which included the following members: Cathedral Ledge Distillery, The Local Grocer, and White Mountain Indoor Golf along with a visit to Whitaker Woods.
* February 10th - Tim Jones, our Courtesy Patroler was recognized in the first ever International Ski Patrol Day! Congratulations Tim!
* February 16th - L.A. Drew brought their front loader to assist with snow farming to move snow to the bare spots on the Intervale Trail by their pond to enable grooming for vacation week and Chocolate Festival.
* February 25th - The 34th Annual Inn-to-Inn Chocolate Festival was indeed a sweet day! The day was chilly to start but temps rose to high 20s, sunny, and no wind. Perfect for the sell out crowd to enjoy chocolate treats at 8 trailside stops and 4 nearby area businesses.
* The next day the temps rose and grooming did not resume until the end of the week on limited trails as coverage was thinning, icy, and with bare spots. The final grooming of the season was on March 1st and 2nd after a record warm February with only 2.8" of snowfall.
Many comments were received from season passholders throughout the season complimenting the groomers on the trail conditions. They are ready to get back at it for the 2024-25 season in December!
Thank you to everyone who helped make this a great, but short season.
Our members, season pass holders, visitors, our ambassadors at Whitaker Woods, our groomers, and to Cort Hansen for his direction.
